Moving into a rental property can be a rather complicated process involving a number of steps before you can be accepted and take possession of the property. At The Rent Shop we have worked hard to make sure this process is as simple and stress free as possible by compiling a helpful list to consider during the application process so that you know exactly what we need from you and what you need from us.
Before you move in:
Are you currently renting and if so have you given the required notice (typically 21 days) or is your current tenancy for a fixed term?
When is the property available to move into? Will this date be suitable if you have to move out of an existing rental property?
How many bedrooms does the property have and how many people will be living there?
Are you aware of the move in costs? These are typically worked out as:
Can you get a reference from an existing or previous landlord?
Once you have considered these factors and found a suitable property you need to either come into our office or find the property online to make an application. If you would like to view the property we ask that you first drive past and view it from the outside and then if you like it, contact the listing agent via the details on the advertisement or come into our office to arrange a viewing time. Before you view the inside of the property we require you to complete a Tenancy Application form and give us a copy of your photo ID.
Once you have viewed the property and you would still like to continue with your application we require a 3 things in order to make the decision if you will be accepted for the property or not.
These are:
-
A written reference from a current or previous landlord or a phone number of a current or previous landlord so we can get a verbal reference.
-
A copy of photo ID e.g. NZ Drivers License, Passport etc
-
Once you have completed the application you will be contacted by the listing agent if you are accepted for the property.
